Patented in 1941 by Edward Kanter, Arrow Products Mfg. Co. produced battery powered electric table lighters very similar Dunhill's Silent Flame lighters. Offered with at least three figural variations, "Gilda" is the most commonly seen version -- a female nude inspired by Dunhill's "Aphrodite". Kanter's design patent shows a more elaborate variation of "Gilda", a hula dancer with peek-a-boo grass skirt. When the red flowers above the hula dancer's bottom are squeezed together, her skirt pops open. A third variation with a female bowler figure has also been seen. (EB)
