Designed by Russel Bass in 1938, his utility patent for the mechanics of the Vulcan was granted in 1939 and assigned to Chase. Chase only produced this lighters for a couple of years before production was discontinued as the U.S. entered World War 2. Vulcans are most commonly seen with plastic bodies but other figural finish options were offered. (EB)
