The American Safety Razor Company (ASR) was founded in 1906 by the merger of two earlier razor-related companies. Originally based in Brooklyn, the company is best known for its shaving-related products and only produced lighters for about ten years. The earliest patent date for the semi-automatic mechanism design used for all ASR lighters was applied for on December 19, 1945. The Brooklyn factory was forced to relocate in 1954; lighter production likely ceased at this point.
