De Luxe Golden Wheel Lighters
Produced during the 1930s, there is very little known documentation of De Luxe Golden Wheel Lighter and the available patent information is difficult to deduce. Axel Kilstrom filed two different U.S. utility patents for lighter designs in 1932, both patents were assigned to Lederer Bros.
The first patent was filed in February 1932 but wasn't accepted for more than five years in May 1937. Fig.1 of the patent drawing shows a full automatic, enclosed thumb-press design that is quite similar to Evans Trig-A-Lite lighters. These 'De Luxe Golden Wheel lighters appear in 1933 advertising sold as smoking sets and lighter case combinations. Branded and unbranded examples are pictured here. The Fig.7 drawing shows a different Lederer model.
The second Kilstrom patent was file July 1932 and accepted in April 1936. No manufacturer info or advertising is currently know for these full automatic Lederer lighters. All examples show here are unbranded. They are very similar to may be a second version of the De Luxe Golden Wheel with improved mechanism. They utilize an open thumb-press design also used by the Golden Wheel Sta-Lit. (EB)
